Canon info
Molly is the first child of Michael and Charity Carpenter.
During Death Masks, Molly is fourteen years old. By this time she develops a rather Goth scene look in clothes, piercings, and make-up when not at home, but changed back to conservative clothes in the treehouse before going home.
Molly first manifested her magical power about two years before the events of Proven Guilty, when she instinctively created a veil. After coming home from school she had entered the house while still wearing her Goth clothes, confident her mother was out. When Charity, who had stayed home sick, happened onto her in the living room, Molly, in a panic, unconsciously veiled herself. Shocked to discover her mother did not acknowledge her, she went to her room to change her clothes, now aware that she might have magical talent.
Molly was arrested for possession of marijuana and ecstasy, which she was caught holding during a police raid at a party, and sentenced to community service. Her father thought her apparent repentance was enough, but her mother insisted on further actions and restrictions. In the spring before Proven Guilty the familial situation escalated, resulting in Molly leaving home and dropping out of school.
From here. Will update with my own info later. :)
Molly has excellent control of delicate magics such as mind control and this has gotten her into trouble. When she was living on her own she gave her friends nightmares to scare them away from drugs. One of the few laws of magic is "Thou shalt not invade the mind of another." She not only attracted phobophages (monsters that feed on fear) to Chicago where they killed a number of people, but she also attracted the attention of some dangerous creatures of Faerie. After being saved Harry convinced her to turn herself in to the White Council where she was nearly executed but for Harry's intervention. Now she lives under the Doom of Damoclese and was assigned to train under Harry until she could be trusted to live on her own.
As an apprentice to Warden Dresden she trained for several years until the final battle with the Red Court. The events of this battle were very difficult mentally for her as she has an extreme sensitivity to magic bordering on empathic abilities meaning she felt a lot of death. This coupled with her subsequent issues with Harry's death left her somewhat damaged and she spent several years living on her own and trying to keep the supernatural forces of evil from preying on Chicago. She cultivated a fearful persona called the Ragged Lady, and even those who were closest to her were worried she might be insane. When Harry's ghost showed up she had to pull herself together to fight a powerful Shade. As of Cold Days she seems to have recovered a good deal of herself and lives very well with some powerful allies. Though the final (spoilery) chapter is going to move her into a very different and dangerous situation in Faerie as her identity shifts from Molly Carpenter, Wizard to Molly Carpenter, Winter Lady.
I'll be playing Molly anywhere from about 18-25 depending on the situation. She is adept at veils, verisimilomancy, psychomancy (which is what got her in trouble and damaged her friends), holomancy and neuromancy. Her powers range from veils that can perfectly hide a person from all senses of an observer and projections that can appear completely lifelike to extreme mental penetration, she can invade a mind and tear down their barriers, make them see things and get information and generally screw a person up. She has an external attack dubbed DJ Molly C's One Woman Rave which mostly consists of enough light and noise to stop traffic on a highway a few miles away.
