Species: Human Wizard
Fandom: The Dresden Files

PB: Alecia Moore (and some fanart/comic scans)
Holoprojection Human Interface PB: n/a
Canon Point: The end of the battle in Cold Days

Appearance: Molly is tall and well built she takes after her mother with some strength in her muscles. She is naturally blonde but tends to dye her hair in whatever color she's feeling like. She wears her hair mostly in a tapered bob though she's been known to cut it military short or let it grow out. She has piercings all over, ears, eyebrow, nose, tongue, in the hollow below her lower lip, nipples, belly button. She also has a dragon tattoo that runs from just below her ear all the way down the left side of her body to her thigh. When she's going to a fight she takes most of the piercings out for safety (also when it's really cold out tyvm).

Molly's clothes tend toward the punk/goth range, combat boots, fishnets, torn up skirts or jeans etc. though she's been wearing more utilitarian clothes lately.  Cargo pants, and tank tops or t-shirts aren't odd to see her wearing.  If anything Molly enjoys changing her look frequently.

History (spoilers, obv.): Molly was born to Michael and Charity Carpenter, their first of seven children. Michael is a Knight of the Cross, the bearer of one of three Holy swords with nails from THE cross wrought into them. And he literally saved Charity from a dragon when they first met. No joke. Her family is very religious, Catholic specifically and Molly's mother is very strict. And like most kids who grow up with parents like that, Molly started rebelling early on. It jumped quickly from prank phone calls to full out Goth. Usually she'd change from her standard school clothes to something her mother definitely wouldn't approve of after leaving the house, then she'd change back in the treehouse out back before coming in. When she first discovered her magic she had come home on a day her mother was supposed to be out, only to find out Charity had stayed home sick. When her mother came into the room she was watching TV still in all the punk clothes, Molly had wanted nothing more than to disappear. Funnily enough, Charity didn't say a word, never even looked at Molly which was how Molly discovered she could hide herself behind a veil. Molly and her mother began, around this time, to fight.  Molly rebelled, eventually quit school and left home, staying with friends when she could.

As any child suddenly discovering they had a talent that was totally cool, Molly started looking into Magic, joined up with the wrong crew (none of whom had any actual magic ability it turns out), and ended up getting arrested for possession when she was caught holding marijuana and ecstasy. Which is how Harry first discovers that she has strength in mental magics. It turns out, in order to save a friend who had become pregnant from hurting the child, she delved into the girl's mind to give her nightmares and scare her away from drugs. She practiced on her own boyfriend who was the father. The most unsettling problem with that is that when you have some lasting resentment that kind of mind penetration can become contaminated and can actually drive a person mad. The horrors that she perpetrated on her friends called actual horrors from the NeverNever and she ended up being kidnapped by a phobophage, specifically a fairy that fed off fear. Harry had to save her from the heart of Winter and explain to her she's broken one of the laws of magic. Which is a death sentence.

Through his intervention and her father's assistance in a Wizard war with Vampires, Molly get the sentence postponed enough for Harry to try to rehabilitate her. She becomes his apprentice where he teaches her control and helps her hone her abilities all while trying to keep her on the straight and narrow as mind manipulation tends to be addictive.  All this time the threat of her delayed execution, called the Doom of Damocles is always hovering over her if she screws up.

Molly helps Harry destroy the Red Court vampires in an assault on Chichen Itza in Mexico in a gruesome, bloody battle that leaves her already high sensitivity to magic overloaded. She barely makes it out alive and it takes her some time to recover. This weakening of her mental stability is then further tested when she has to assist Harry in his own suicide to save his child. By the time his ghost shows back up, Molly is walking a fine tether between trying to convince everyone she's gone insane and is dangerous (her attempt to protect Chicago in Harry's absence) to actually being somewhat insane and definitely dangerous. She has also been getting impromptu mentoring from Harry's Faery Godmother in his absence and Lea tends to teach by attempting in many creative ways, to kill you, something that seems to be a theme with the Fae.

She goes head to head against a spirit entity in a full battle in her own mind that again nearly kills her. It takes her some time after that to start building her life back up, and she is starting to finally stand more or less mentally stable and stronger, even having helped some supernatural heavies and earning the Svartalves respect by the time Harry shows back up alive and well and enlists her to fight Faery Queens and Monsters from outside the gates of their reality. It is in this final battle atop a demonic island that Molly is transported, covered in mud to the Warehouse.

Previous Game History, IF APPLICABLE: n/a
Personality: Molly is effervescent and curious.  She grew up with brave parents and she takes after her mother in pure stubbornness. When she sets her mind to something, especially helping someone she can be single and closed minded.  This is what drove her to give her friends nightmares to save them from themselves.  That single act put a darkness in her that she has to fight and when she was younger she really wasn't all that interested in fighting it.  Molly tended to prefer settling things the easy way as opposed to the smart way.  Harry has managed to help mellow her out through a combination of intimidation and compassion.

She also grew up knowing that Harry Dresden was the guy who showed up and saved people with her dad.  She has had a crush on him since she was about twelve and it hasn't gone away even if Harry has made it clear that won't go anywhere.  This makes him a particular weakness for her.

Her sensitivity to magic gives her a significant empathetic edge that is further driven by her desire to help people.  She is smart though not abnormally so, even though she skipped some school when she dropped out for a while before Harry made her go back.  She has been training with a detective so her deductive abilities are more honed than the average twenty year old.

When she was recovering from the final battle with the vampire court and Harry's subsequent death, she took over in Chicago trying to scare all the bad things out with enough success that it didn't devolve like some other cities around the country but their Chicago is in no way doing great.  During that time she was acting insane but even she wasn't always sure it was all acting.  This combined with Lea's 'toss her to the wolves' training has made Molly dangerous even when her forte is not full on battle.  She still remains less outgoing than she used to be and tends to mask her feelings.  Now that she can sense other's emotions, she has to spend a lot of time focusing to let them pass through her when someone is broadcasting to strongly, so that their emotions won't take over her completely.  This has involved a lot of mental exercise and meditation, which has further mellowed her personality.  When she has less to worry about, her outgoing and bubbly nature will be more likely to rise to the surface again but when things get tough, she's has an easier time collecting herself focus on the task. Where she might have jumped eagerly at the chance to run into danger before, she has tempered enough to think things through and decide where she will actually best serve certain situations and if she needs to sit back and man the phones instead of running full throttle toward the explosions, she won't bitch nearly as much anymore.  But she might bitch a little. And mellowing out doesn't mean she doesn't get a chip on her shoulder when she doesn't like someone or someone tells her to do something she doesn't want to do.

Special facts/special abilities about your character:
Molly is a Wizard.  A wizard always uses spells in a language they don't know so that they won't accidentally cast a spell when they don't mean to, Molly uses Japanese. While her mentor tends to have a lot of heavy combat abilities, and huge bang for his buck, Molly's skills are more delicate.  Her specialty is anything to do with the mind or neuromancy.  She is adept at verisimilomancy or the magic of illusions all external perceptions.  This means she can do a mean veil hiding both visually, and auditorially and to a degree she can hide scent, the more she has to hide the harder it is so she'll try to find a place to hide if she can so she can focus less on movement and displacement.

She is also good at  psychomancy which is what got her in trouble and damaged her friends.  With psychomancy she can delve into someone's thoughts and attack their mind.  She could conceivably enthrall someone like the traditional vampire might though that's stepping over some lines she isn't interested in stepping over mostly because that'll get her a one way ticket to beheading-ville.  It's a magical law you don't break.  This can be used to dig through a person's thoughts for information as well, she has even used it to read the final moments of a murder victim's life to help in one of Harry's cases.  She also used this to help Harry erase his memories so completely that he could trick a Faery Queen about his intentions as he had no memory of planning to help himself avoid a debt.  She can also use this to defend herself against someone using psychomancy against her a lot like Snape and Harry practiced in the Harry Potter.  She has created layers and worlds of defenses in her own mind to protect against intrusion.

Molly is adept at holomancy  which is a variation on verisimilomancy but includes internal projections.  Going into someone's mind and creating the reality you want them to experience from the inside. This also means she can project as well, she's been known to run multiple projections at once all simultaneously doing different things.  So she can make it appear she has split into several versions of herself complete with weapons and vehicles, but it'll quickly fall apart if someone takes the time to realize no actual bullets are hitting them.  She also uses this to put people to sleep and her skill is good enough to do a lot of people at once, something Harry has said is 'Council Level' magic.  Only the strongest wizards in the world are at Council level.  Molly also has the ability to pull a soul out of a body.  She has only used it to take someone out who did not belong there but it's definitely not something she'd broadcast knowledge of to the Wizard Council.

Freaky mind powers aside she also has something fondly dubbed DJ Molly C's One Woman Rave which mostly consists of enough light and noise to stop traffic on a highway a few miles away. If you're in the middle of it, it's disorienting and distracting as hell.  Molly has most of the basic magic other wizards have.  She can do locator/tracking spells, shield spells, opening a door to the Never Never, call small flames or winds, mix basic potions, she can use the sight and soulgaze anyone who looks into her eyes for more than a few seconds (something that happens only once between two people yet gives them a full view of everything the other person is).  Molly can Listen, which is mostly a really impressive way to focus one's hearing and pick things up as though they're coming through a mic to her when the person is farther away. She's also learned a spell that can help her reveal people hidden under veils.

Her magic makes her sensitive to other magic and even to people's emotions so if you're broadcasting your feelings loud enough she can get a general feel for, well, your feelings.  Also, modern technology is kind of sketchy around her.  It's not as bad as Harry but anyone with any decent amount of magical ability will throw off electronics if they get too close.  Just like anyone else with significant magic in their world, Molly must be invited inside or her magic won't come with her leaving her as vulnerable as a normal person.

What is arriving with your character?  Molly was in the process of covering herself in mud to pass through a barrier so she's bringing a lot of mud, and her go bag which was still touching her foot when she was called through.  The go-bag has basic necessities, some snacks, water, rope, cash, sunglasses, first aid kit, all her jewelry.  And combat ready things like a knife, her two wands with crystals attached to the tips, and of course she's wearing clothes.  So she'll have her combat boots, fatigue style pants with lots of pockets currently only filled with mud, and a tank top.  And standard underthings.

PART 3 - Writing Samples
1. First Person Writing Sample:
Dear Mun thread (let me know if you want me to write up something else)
2. Third Person Writing Sample (from here if you want to read the whole thing):
Molly squinted at him with one eye. "Hunter?" Why hadn't anyone mentioned hunters to her. What the hell were hunters? These are need to know things! "As far as I know I don't have a gang. It's just me and well... me. I'm learning to detect not hunt."

She puffed out a breath to blow her bangs out of her eyes and crossed her arms as she tried to think of a way to explain things to the boy she'd been assigned to observe. Lifting her hand again she touched her temple for a moment and then shrugged. "First of all, you have no idea what else is out there besides your friends with their furry little problem." Oh Buffy. Still her hero. "Second of all I'm not whatever a hunter is. I'm a wizard." Which she clearly thought was superior in every way. "I'm handy to have around but I can't just, you know, appear if you get your butt in a bind. I've just got to watch and make sure they're not putting you in too much danger and that they're going to be able to handle all the other boogie monsters that are going to come to the all you can eat dark power buffet you guys have boiling up here."

She held out her hands in a sign of non-aggression. "And if they're putting the regular population in that much danger I'm really the least of their problems. The supernatural powers have like... an unwritten agreement not to go marching a freaks and geeks parade down main street announcing their presence." Mostly because even though humans were perfect prey creatures, they could get really freaking scary in large numbers. Especially when bombs were involved.

3. First or Third person Sample:
Let's face it, of all the things Molly had been expecting, ending up in some bare room with a camera and a grumpy voice on an intercom were not even in the vicinity of anything she had expected.  In fact she had expected to finish covering herself in mud (even in her ears - ick, she was already regretting having to stuff that stuff up her nose) and step through a magical wall of light that had disintegrated everything else that tried to step through it, and see two faerie queens and their retinues waging a battle against a spiritual being with enough power to keep every outsider on the shores at bay.

She'd had her veil all ready to go the second she stepped through and her heart was already going a mile a minute in anticipation of what was probably going to end horribly for everyone so now that she was standing here in this unassuming room with mud plopping onto the floor in great big clumps it was with a sort of baffled resignation she ended up with a face full of more gunk.  Purple gunk this time so at least it was getting creative with the colors.  But after that initial blast nothing really mattered all that much to her any more.  It's hard to stay freaked out when lassitude is making you feel kind of nice and sleepy.  Where had she felt like that before?  There was definitely a time.  And then someone was  telling her to leave the room and that seemed like a nice enough idea, it was a pretty small room anyway.  Why would they put a boxed up camera in a closet like that anyway?    Maybe they used it for one of those peep shows some of the guys talked about seeing online.  That seemed like the kind of thing you'd do in a closet.

She stopped in front of a little desk and giggled at the idea of a sonic shower.  "What the doctor recommended?"  She asked, still giggling to herself even if the man behind the desk didn't look amused. Not even when she asked if she could use the screwdriver.  Well, not everyone could have a sense of humor.

New Players Only - One last question, how did you find out about our game? Saw it on ATP and then chatted with Harry in Dear Mun.  Actually have a friend who doesn't have much time who really got excited to see a Warehouse game when it first came out. I am now trying to convince them to try out for Pete.
